Quentin “Coach Q” Pullen:
A Lifetime of Service.
Service has been a constant throughout my life.
I grew up in Southwest Atlanta in a family where faith, hard work, personal responsibility, and service to others were expectations, not slogans.
At 18, I left Georgia to serve in the United States Marine Corps and later continued my military service in the United States Navy Reserve. Those experiences helped shape how I approach leadership today: mission first, people always.
My journey has taken me from military service to entrepreneurship, health and wellness, nonprofit leadership, civic engagement, community activism, mentoring, political campaigns, and community organizing.
Community & Family.
After nearly three decades in California, my wife Nora and I returned home to Georgia and made Fayette County our home.
Since returning, I have worked to become more than someone who simply lives in the community. I believe we have a responsibility to participate in it.
That has meant working with community and civic organizations, mentoring young people, supporting veterans, organizing community events, participating in demonstrations, creating opportunities for conversations with elected officials and candidates, advocating for stronger communities, and encouraging everyday people to become more engaged.
A Leader, Not a Politician.
I've also put my name on the ballot because I believe that if we want better government, good people have to be willing to step forward and serve.
Winning an election, however, was never the destination.
Service is the destination.
And the work continues.
We do this Together.
Today, we are prioritizing political parties and power over the people. We are demonizing those who do not fully align with our opinions, whether their ideas would benefit our community or not. We are too often beholden to special interests instead of community interests. We have stopped listening to each other. It will take effort to restore our values.
Leadership is not a position of authority but rather a position of service and influence, of unity and inclusiveness. As a community, we need to have a bigger voice and take more personal responsibility for the direction in which we would like to see our community grow.
Always Strive for Better.
In Boot Camp, I earned the position of platoon leader. I took the responsibility seriously and kept that position of leadership. Service and striving to be better is in my blood.
Being in the military allowed me to enroll in college. Graduating Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Electronics Engineering meant a lot to me and my family.
Before I graduated or had the opportunity to practice in the profession, I realized coaching was my true calling: it fulfilled me more. Helping people realize big goals they never thought they could, bringing out the best in them, and revealing their strengths is satisfying to the soul.
Watching people stretch themselves and grow is a continuous source of inspiration and motivation.
